This past weekend I was down at Austin for the UT Graduate Conference. It was a whole lot of fun. I want to especially thank Briggs Wright, Aidan McGlynn, John Bengson for putting together the conference, and especially Aidan for letting me crash at his place.
There were many engaging talks. Raul Saucedo’s talk on parthood and location especially brings me back to thinking about a priori metaphysics. People also gave me lots of helpful comments on reshaping my ideas, especially my commentor Derek Ball. So, thanks. I was also impressed by how well-attended the talks were, by both graduate students and the faculty. If you think you have something to say, you should definitely apply to this conference next year. (Of course, after hearing about the number of submissions that the organizers have to read, I almost feel some moral obligation to tell people not to apply.)
Sadly I did not get to go to a show in Austin. I did, however, go to the flagship Whole Foods and the South Congress bridge and some other touristy things. I liked Austin, but actually going there made me appreciate Ann Arbor for being a very walkable town. Austin feels a little sprawled out, and it is entirely way too hot. The public transportation, however, makes up for the urban sprawl. It’s not a bad city to be, I think.
P.S. Congratulations to Prof. Dr. Dan Korman.
